How to put together your own study program

There is a large degree of freedom in how you can put together a semester's program in Computer Science at Roskilde. The following diagram shows the different possible models. Most of our 7.5 ECTS courses, referred to as technical courses below, run in the first 11 weeks of each semester, i.e., in Spring start February until around April 20 and in Autumn from start September until around November 20. Each of these courses up a full day each week, and some overlap in time is unavoidable. The actual schedule will be prepared and announced before the start of each semester.

Each semester is offered also one or two so-called advanced courses run full time 4 weeks starting around April/November 20.

Notice that the application forms are different for Erasmus and for Guest students. Erasmus students should fill a Learning Agreement with detailed choices of projects and courses whereas Guest students should to indicate the semester name followed course acronyms — official semester names and approximative study year given in parentheses for each model below. (Lists of courses and project works are linked from the main page).

Time line
Start February/September until around April/November 20 ... until about end May/December

Model 1: Two technical courses and project work (Bachelor semester; 3rd year)

Technical course I: 7.5 ECTS Bachelor project:
15 ECTS
Technical course II: 7.5 ECTS

The project work in Model 1, although named "Bachelor project", can be adapted for pre-Bachelor or early Master level; the project should involve the development of a substantial program (see the page Bachelor project for more details).

Model 2: Three technical and one advanced courses (1st Master Semester; 4th year)

Technical course I: 7.5 ECTS Advanced topics in
Computer Science:
7.5 ECTS
Technical course II: 7.5 ECTS
Technical course III: 7.5 ECTS

It is possible for both Erasmus and guest students to take Model 2 (1st Master Semester) even if they are still studying at bachelor level, provided they have the relevant background for the courses chosen.

Model 3: Two technical courses plus 15 ECTS Pre-Master project

(2nd Master Semester with project and courses, K2; 4th or 5th year)

Technical course I: 7.5 ECTS Pre-Master Project:
15 ECTS
Technical course II: 7.5 ECTS

Model 3 may or may not be applicable for guest student; this will be clarified very soon.

Model 4: The large Pre-Master project

(2nd Master Semester with project, K2; 4th or 5th year)
Pre-Master Project: 30 ECTS

Model 5: Master Thesis (2nd Master Semester with thesis, K2-S; 4th or 5th year)

Master Thesis: 30 ECTS

Restriction for a whole year (= 2 semesters') program

The same Model cannot be used twice. Only one out of Models 3, 4 and 5 can be used in a student's program.

Exams

The exams for courses and project works taken in the autumn semester takes place in January for courses. For those taken in the spring semester, the exams are in in June. Master Theses can be examined whenever they are given in; depending on the student's this can be with or without an oral presentation of the work. Be aware that this assessment procedure for Master Theses may take up to two months.

General advice and requirements

All programs are full time studies and are difficult to combine with other work and travels.

It is strictly required that students must be present for the semester start around February/September 1. The will be important information meetings and seminars for forming groups for the project works. Those who wish to take Danish courses should expect to arrive around January/August 15. Precise information will be included in the letter of acceptance.
