How and when to apply for exchange and guest students

Notice that there are small differences in requirements and options for Erasmus and other exchange students and for Guest students.

Erasmus and other exchange students should enter the selection procedure at their home university and then fill in the application form and learning agreement form available at Roskilde University's website. So the first person to contact is your own, local coordinator. Students going for a Master's thesis art Roskilde must also contact the international coordinator at Roskilde concerning choice of thesis topic and assignment of thesis supervisor, which ideally are in place when you arrive.

It is possible for Erasmus and other exchange students to stay either one semester, Autumn or Spring, or two semesters which then must begin with an Autumn semester. If you want to start with a Spring semester followed by an Autumn semester, you must register as guest student for one of the semesters as explained below. Erasmus and exchange students can select freely among all study activities offered in Computer Science, independently of study year, provided that they have the right background. It is possible to combine one semester of Computer Science with one semester of another topic ; more information linked from this page.

Guest students can apply for studies of one or two semesters of Computer Science, or one semester of Computer Science and one semester of a different subject. As a guest student you need to follow the same semester programs as our regular students, but in practice this makes only very little difference. Guest students need to pay a fee; see the current rates here. Studying as a guest student, rather than Erasmus, may be relevant in case there is no exchange contract you can refer to or if your university has made a special agreement with Roskilde, as is the case for EPITECH in the study year 2012-2013.
NOTICE: DETAILED GUIDELINES FOR EPITECH STUDENTS APPLYING AS GUEST STUDENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE BEFORE MAY 1, 2012.

Notice that these application deadlines are strict.

Be aware that your own university also may have its own deadlines which are typically earlier than those mentioned. For Erasmus and exchange students, it is compulsory to send a learning agreement together with the application, and it is highly recommended to have it informally approved by the coordinator at Roskilde before the application is sent. Guest students are also recommended to have the details of their study program informally approved by the coordinator at Roskilde before the application is sent.

Accomodation, how to find a place to stay

Erasmus and exchange students will receive, together with the letter of acceptance, a new application form for accommodation. For guest students, Roskilde does not offer this currently service, but we may try to help you in case we are aware of vacant rooms or send you a list of relevant addresses. In any case, you should expect to pay a deposit when signing a contract for a room and that the price per month for a room may be more expensive than in your own country.

For students who need a visa

Visa is needed for students from some countries, and you must be aware that the application procedure for a visa to Denmark may take around 6 weeks, exceptionally up to 2 months, so apply as soon as you receive our letter of acceptance!

Language requirements: new regulations for students starting Autumn 2012 or later

Together with your application, you must also submit documentation for a certain fluency in English; find more details at the university's general page. Notice that the referenced page refers to exchange students, but these regulations go for guest students for Computer Science as well; all Computer Science courses are offered in English, so the remarks about familiarity with Danish are less important.

A note on Erasmus exchange agreements

There needs to be an Erasmus exchange agreement between you university and Computer Science at Roskilde; if you learned about Roskilde from the Erasmus coordinator at your university, or from another student who has stayed at Roskilde, there is probably an existing agreement. You should be aware that the number of seats in each contract is limited. If you are really eager to come to Roskilde, you may consider applying as guest student.
